A Procedure for Delayed Gastric Emptyping on Pyloric Preserving Pancreaticoduodenectomy



Abstract
Ten cases of ampullar of Vater cancer, distal common bile duct cancer received pyloric preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy at the department of surgery of Kwangju Christian Hospital from January 1991 to December 1992. We studied to determine what
reduced
the delayed gastric emptying in ten cases of our 2 cm-pylroic preserving pancreaticoduodenectomized patients.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1) The most prevalent age groups were 6th and 7th decade, and male to female ratio was 1 : 1
2) Frequent clinical manifestations were abdominal pain(70%), and fever & chillness(70%), jaundice(60%), weight loss(40%) in order.
3) The duration of symptoms was within 1 month in 60%.
4) Important laboratory findings were increased alkaline phosphatase(90%), and increased serum bilirubin(60%).
5) Among 10 cases, 7 cases were ampullar of Vater cancer, 3 cases were distal common bile dust cancer.
6) The postive finding on diagnostic methods was 100% in PTC, 88.9% in ultrasono, 77.8% in ERCP and 44.4% in CT.
7) The positive finding on diagnostic methods was about 7 hours, and amount of bleeding was 435 cc.
8) The postoperative complications were diarrhea(50%), abdominal pain(40%), delayed gastric emptying(10%), wound infection(10%) in order.
9) The patients achieved median values of at lesat at least 101.8% of preoperative weight.
